Ronaldo Koeman was sent to the stands as Barcelona blew a 1-0 lead against Granada and missed out on the chance to go top of La Liga.
Lionel Messi had given Barcelona the lead in the 23rd minute when he combined with Antoine Griezmann before arrowing a shot into the far corner.
The Argentine would have doubled his and Barca’s tally 12 minutes later had it not been for a magnificent point blank save from Aaron Escandell.
With a one goal lead Barca were always vulnerable, and so it proved after Koeman was given his marching orders midway through the second-half.
Dawin Machis found Granada’s equaliser before substitute Jorge Molina headed in what proved to be the winner for the visitors late on.
Remarkably,, Granada had just 18% possession at the Nou Camp but still managed to come away with all three points and deny Barca top spot.
“We lost our focus in the second half and made errors at the back,” Koeman said after the match.
“We need to accept the fact we've lost, that's the reality of things. We had chances to win the game, but that's that.
“We've got five more games to go and each of the sides (in the title race) will have difficulties in the schedule.
“We now need to prepare ourselves for Sunday's game (away to Valencia). We're still in the mix and have a chance. We need to accept this, move on and prepare for the next one.
“We tried but weren't able to make many chances when they scored their goals. They closed shop well and we couldn't create.”
Defeat leaves Barcelona two points adrift of La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid ahead of Sunday’s trip to Valencia.
