Leeds United have been punished with a hefty fine for their part played in the mass on-field brawl with the Chelsea team at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier this month, their Premier League clash ended in controversy after the Blues prevailed 3-2 winners thanks to two penalties awarded in their favour.

Junior Firpo was at the centre of a heated exchange which eventually involved almost every player from each team, as Antonio Rudiger also reacted angrily at the final whistle.

An FA spokesperson confirmed: "Leeds United FC has been fined £20,000 for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 that took place during the 93rd minute of its Premier League match against Chelsea FC on Saturday 11 December 2021.

"Leeds United FC admitted failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion when they surrounded the match referee, and accepted the standard penalty."

Marcelo Bielsa's side had five players booked during the high-velocity tie, and tensions boiled over as the final whistle blew at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's Kai Havertz was shoved by Firpo prompting players from both teams to rush over and square up to one another.

Rudiger, who had been fouled for both of Chelsea's penalties on the night, was in the middle of it all, grabbing hold of both Firpo and Diego Llorente as the situation spiralled out of control.

The German defender was eventually dragged away by teammate Romelu Lukaku as technical staff from both benches rushed the pitch to try and calm everybody down.

Raphina had given Leeds the lead in the first half before Chelsea struck back through Mason Mount.

Jorginho then put the Blues ahead from the penalty spot before Joe Gelhardt equalised for the visitors with just seven minutes left on the clock.

But in fourth minute of injury time, Leeds conceded another penalty which was duly converted by Jorginho to secure all three points for Thomas Tuchel's side at the death.
