Leeds lash out at Aston Villa hero Agbonlahor following Patrick Bamford heroics
Leeds United hit back at Gabby Agbonlahor after beating Aston Villa 3-0 in Friday's Premier League clash thanks to a Patrick Bamford hat-trick.
Former Villa hero Agbonlahor had been taunting Leeds through the week in the build-up to their clash against his old club.
Villa went into the clash second in the table and the only Premier League still with a 100% record, after leaders Everton drew with Liverpool last weekend.
Leeds lost to Wolves on Monday, and Agbonlahor predicted more misery to come for Marcelo Biesla's side when they made the trip to Villa Park.
The ex-England striker took to Twitter, warning: "Leeds fans we're coming for you next", and also boasted that he would be biased when covering the game for Sky Sports.
Agbonlahor also tweeted: "Leeds are a myth, maybe all the pundits will get out of Bielsa's a**e."
And on the day of the game, the 34-year-old wrote: "Good morning to everyone but Leeds fans."
But Bielsa's side made a mockery of Agbonlahor's predictions as Bamford fired a sublime hat-trick in a stunning second-half display.
And they did without captain Liam Cooper and midfield enforcer Kalvin Phillips, who were both injured.
After the game, Phillips replied to Agbonlahor's "Good morning" tweet, writing: "Goodnight to all Leeds fans, sleep tight" with a laughing emoji.
And the club's social media team also couldn't resist a dig at the former striker, posting a collection of Agbonlahor's tweets alongside a picture of Bamford celebrating with Helder Costa.
Agbonlahor was clearly expecting a backlash after the game as he took to Twitter one last time, posting, "My comments are off by the way Leeds fans lol so I won’t see them" – with one fan replying: "Bamford made you turn your comments off".
Striker Agbonlahor scored 86 goals in 391 games for Villa between 2005 and 2018, and won three caps for England.
