The England Under-21 international – who has scored seven goals and recorded nine assists from 41 games this season for Leicester – has previously spent time on loan at MK Dons, Barnsley and West Brom.
It was at the West Midlands club that Barnes made an impression and to such an extent that he was recalled by Leicester in the 2019 January transfer window.
Liverpool also find his versatility an attractive quality, with the forward able to play in a variety of positions up front.

But the champions will reportedly find it it difficult to take the player away from the King Power Stadium despite Klopp’s desire to add an extra forward to his squad.
The Reds had previously targeted Wolves star Adama Traore, but the Molineux side are said to have rebuffed their approach.
That has led the Anfield club to turn their attention to Barnes, but Leicester are expected to demand a huge fee for a young player with excellent sell-on potential.

However, Klopp has already admitted the club won’t spend huge sums on bringing in players.
Not only could Barnes slot in among the front three in attack and help out in the midfield, but he could also help to fill the impending void that Adam Lallana will leave when his contract expires next week.
Leicester had been keen on taking Lallana with Brendan Rodgers hopeful of reuniting with the 32-year-old, but he is set to sign a three-year deal at Brighton.
