Lille confirm Boubakary Soumare set for exit amid Man Utd and Liverpool interest
Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare has been told he can leave the club following interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool earlier this year.
The midfielder was on the radar of some of Europe's top clubs after some impressive performances in Ligue 1.
Liverpool were reported to be in negotiations over Soumare back in March, according to Spanish publication Sport , while United, Arsenal and Chelsea were linked with the 21-year-old during the January transfer window.
And it's not just Premier League teams who have shown an interest, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also having been previously been credited with an interest in the France under-21 international.
Talk of a big move for Soumare have died down with other targets having emerged for all of the above clubs – but suitors have been put on alert by the latest news from Lille.
President Gérard Lopez said the club had received bids for Soumare and insisted he could leave this summer if he wanted to.
He also claimed the player had turned down "important offers" from other clubs.
Lopez said Soumare would "undoubtedly leave", but suggested he was keen to move to a club where he would be getting first-team football.
"I am going to sit down with the players and their entourages this week," Lopez told Téléfoot Chaine , cited by Get Football News France .
"We need to sit down with the players and speak. In terms of Boubakary, as we play with two in the midfield… The door is open if he wants to leave.
"We have had important offers from clubs where he did not want to go.
"All three parties have to agree for a transfer to occur… He’s quite impatient to play & that’s normal. It shows ambition.
"He will undoubtedly leave the club, the door is open. We have concrete offers. We will talk in the coming days.”
