Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has promised fans that the club will move for any player they believe can strengthen their side in the final days of the transfer window. The German was coy on Friday afternoon when he was quizzed on the Reds’ plans before Tuesday night’s deadline.

So far, Liverpool have only brought in centre-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, a deal that was finalised back in May.

Other targets have been linked including the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Saul Niguez but so far, Liverpool have been fully focused on clearing the decks and raising potential transfer funds.

Marko Grujic, Taiwo Awoniyi, Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri have all departed on permanent deals while a host of others fringe players have also left on loan including Ben Davies and Ben Woodburn.

Klopp has never been one to discuss the club’s transfer plans openly but he did not completely rule out the idea of a new signing in the coming days.

He said: “If there was one player, one player that we see that can improve all the things we have, then we would go for him. I promise!

“Do I expect a busy four days? Not really, to be honest. But you never know.”

Express Sport understands Liverpool made an initial enquiry for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma earlier this week.

The Mali international has made a fantastic start to the new campaign and caught the eye in Albion’s 2-0 win over Watford last week.

Bissouma loves to get from box to box and he pressed high to win the ball back and set up Neal Maupay for the second goal of the afternoon.

Liverpool are yet to replace the Gini Wijnaldum, who was so influential under Klopp, following his move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

Klopp has continued to bang the drum that he already has a number of ready-made replacements in his squad including Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Harvey Elliott, who starred last week against Burnley.

Bissouma is valued at close to £40m, although at this stage of the transfer window, Graham Potter would be within his rights to demand more should an offer arrive.

Brighton are reportedly looking at Lille’s Cheikh Niasse as a potential replacement.

Coincidentally, the Seagulls signed Bissouma from the Ligue 1 club in the summer of 2018.

Liverpool have also been tipped to sign another forward as cover for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when they head off to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The Reds were expecting a quiet summer at Anfield last summer before they pulled off the unexpected blockbuster additions of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota.

Klopp will be hoping Michael Edwards can deliver an addition or additions of similar quality in the coming days…
