The summer transfer window is about to slam shut, but Liverpool are still on the lookout for new additions despite time nearly being up. So far they have signed just one new player in the form of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, though sporting director Michael Edwards does have four wildcard options he could make a move for.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is looking for reinforcements in several key areas, with his squad in danger of becoming stretched if injuries or suspensions hit.

The Premier League side allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to depart at the end of last season on a free transfer.

Academy product Harvey Elliott has taken the Dutchman’s place so far this season and has impressed.

But a new central midfielder should still be a priority for Edwards as the final hours of the window tick down.

One of the main options available to the Reds is Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez, who is ready to depart the La Liga champions.

Atletico are keen to move the 26-year-old off their wage bill, with Liverpool having been one of the frontrunners to sign him for most of the summer.

A loan deal is certainly still possible despite the time constraints of deadline day, though Atletico could even be persuaded to sanction a permanent deal.

Central midfield is not the only area where the Reds require reinforcements though, with additions in attack also needed.

Liverpool registered their lowest amount of goals in the Premier League since Jurgen Klopp’s first campaign in charge last season.

They are also set to see Xherdan Shaqiri join Lyon for £13m, meaning a new back-up in attacking areas is required.

Understood to be high on the Reds’ shopping list is Jarrod Bowen, who has starred for West Ham since moving to the London Stadium from Hull.

He has scored nine goals and notched 10 assists for the Hammers, helping them to secure qualification for the Europa League last term.

The 24-year-old still has four years left on his contract though so will command a hefty price tag.

That is also an issue with secondary target Adama Traore, who has impressed for Wolves despite his wildly ranging end product.

He was the Midlands club’s man of the match against Manchester United on Sunday, as he terrorised the visitors’ defence.

But with two years left on his deal, Liverpool may need to look for a more affordable option, which could open the door to a move for Ismaila Sarr.

The attacker has impressed for Watford and has already proven he can be a key player in the Premier League, with Liverpool previously exploring a move for him last January.

It is clear that Klopp’s squad is in need of a boost before tonight’s deadline, with the Reds no strangers to making late wildcard moves in the past.
