Liverpool are set to prepare a transfer bid after going to watch Erling Haaland’s Norway take on Turkey in a World Cup qualifier. Haaland’s countrymen fell to a convincing 3-0 defeat at home on Saturday in Group G.
And the man who kept a clean sheet against one of Europe’s hottest strikers has now earned a closer look from Liverpool scouts.
Haaland has scored 33 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season, but failed to find the back of the net against Şenol Güneş side.
Liverpool scouts travelled out to watch the match, but instead of leaving the match convinced that they need to sign Haaland, Turkey goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir has shot himself up the Reds’ transfer plans.
It should come as no surprise that Liverpool went out to watch Cakir, as they have been monitoring him for some time.

Cakir currently plays for Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig, where they sit fourth, and made his sixth appearance for his country on Saturday.
The 24-year-old has kept 10 clean sheets for his club this season, with his clean sheet against Norway his second of his international career.
And Cakir’s fine form continued against Haaland, who was unable to find a way past his Turkish rival, who finished the game with one save and one claim.
Coming up against one of Europe’s hottest strikers should be the perfect way to judge a goalkeeper’s abilities and the Reds are also of that opinion.

Sabah report that Liverpool are lining themselves up to make a £15million bid for Cakir, who is viewed as the perfect replacement for Adrian.
While only number two to Allison, Spanish keeper Adrian has failed to impress when he does play for the Reds.
He has conceded 35 goals in 24 appearances and was infamously at fault for two of Atletico Madrid’s goals in last season’s Champions League knock-out match.
Adrian last started a Premier League match in the win at Sheffield United, with the Spaniard finding himself in a battle with Caoimhin Kelleher to be Allison’s back-up.
The 34-year-old’s contract is also up at the end of the season and, though the club have an option of extending it by a year, his time at Anfield appears to be coming to a close.
Cakir’s contract runs until the summer of 2024, so Trabzonspor can afford to hold out for a price that suits them.
And Liverpool also face competition from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and La Liga team Sevilla for the signing of Cakir.
Though the Super Lig will not provide a stern test for Cakir, Turkey have qualified for the postponed Euro 2020 and have been placed in a group alongside Italy, Wales and Switzerland.
