Liverpool will not be rushing to sign Jack Butland on domestic transfer deadline day.

The reigning Premier League champions had been tipped to look to the Championship for another back up to the injured Alisson after Adrian conceded seven goals against Aston Villa.

However, Jurgen Klopp is said to be pleased with his options in goal, having chosen to back his Spanish stopper after the poor performance at Villa Park before the intentional break.

Stoke’s Butland and Watford’s Ben Foster have been mentioned as possible additions, but both are highly unlikely as the window draws to a close.

The ECHO have reported that Liverpool will not be signing another goalkeeper before the deadline.

That comes after Danny Murphy told the Football Index Podcast: “I like the thought of Jack Butland joining Liverpool. He is trying to find himself again after a really good start to his career when he was being spoken about as potentially England’s first-choice goalkeeper.

“Unfortunately for him, he’s fallen by the wayside a little bit with Stoke being relegated from the Premier League.

“This might be a tremendous opportunity for him to go to a wonderful club, learn from a brilliant goalkeeper, play some games, and start again. That makes sense to me – I think signing Jack Butland would be a clever bit of business.”

After Kevin Phillips told Football Insider last week: "If I was Jurgen Klopp, I would go for Ben Foster.

"If you put me on the spot. Give me Ben Foster any day of the week.

"He was outstanding for Watford last season, even though they went down. Foster is a safe pair of hands, even at his age.

"I would pick him over Jack Butland. Foster has been far more consistent and has the greater experience as well."

Klopp had said of Adrian before the international break: “The first goal was not good but I don’t think he had anything to do with the other goals. We didn’t help him tonight.

“He is a really good goalie. Last year we played 11 games with him and won pretty much all. Tonight our goalie was not the problem. The reaction to the first goal was not his problem, it was our problem.

“It is not often I have seen games like this. I am old enough to know strange things can happen in football. You could see in moments that in challenges Aston Villa wanted it more and that is something I saw and I don’t like.”
