Lucas Torreira's proposed move from Arsenal to Atletico Madrid is under threat with two other clubs reportedly still in the hunt for the midfielder.

It was reported this week that Torreira has agreed personal terms with the La Liga side in a move that could see Thomas Partey switch to the Premier League.

Midfielder Partey is a long-term target for Mikel Arteta's side, but Atleti have insisted he won't be sold for less than his £45million release clause.

Reports of a deal for Torreira raised hopes that a part-exchange deal could be engineered.

But Roma and Fiorentina are still in the running for the Arsenal star, according to Calcio Mercato – as well as Torino, although the Italian outlet claims they have taken a backseat in the chase.

Torreira previously played in Serie A with Sampdoria, and if he decides on a return to Italy it could complicate Arsenal's hopes of signing Partey.

The Gunners are hoping to pocket around £30m for Torreira, which would give them a healthy chunk of cash to put towards Partey's release clause.

However, it might be easier for Arsenal to deal with Atleti direct by negotiating a swap deal.

Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Wednesday that Torreira is keen on joining Diego Simeone’s side and has already agreed his terms of the contract, but Los Rojiblancos first need to see Hector Herrera depart.

Partey has mentioned his desire to feature in the Premier League in the past, which could help Arsenal director Edu reach an agreement before transfer deadline day in October.

Sky Sports News reported last week that because Lyon were not interested in signing Matteo Guendouzi in a deal involving Houssem Aouar, attentions have turned to Partey and Torreira.

The report added that Torreira could either leave the club to join any other team as long as cash is offered upfront – or he could move to the Spanish capital in a deal that would make their target more affordable.
