Lyon star Houssem Aouar ‘not unhappy’ about Arsenal transfer falling through
Lyon star Houssem Aouar insists he is not disappointed that his potential summer move to Arsenal did not materialise.
The Gunners were regularly linked with a transfer for the midfielder though instead signed Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on Deadline Day.
Arsenal had been interested in Partey throughout the window though seemed to favour a move for Aouar as time went on.
However they could not tempt Lyon into selling, having at least one offer rejected, and returned for Partey at the last minute.
But 22-year-old Aouar is not letting his failed move get him down and is focusing on doing his best for Lyon.
“Of course, I asked myself all the necessary questions,” said Aouar.
“I am in the headspace to have a great season with my club and recover the points that we have lost.
“So, of course, we are going to try have the best season and to try to put the team and the club back in its rightful place at the top of France.
And when asked if he is disappointed that a move to Arsenal did not come to fruition, Aouar replied: “I’m the opposite.

“I am at home, in the club that I love, with my friends and my family.
“So certainly I have all my bearings and it is giving me even more motivation to have a good season and to bring the club back to the top places in Ligue 1.
“There is a lot of motivation, we have a quality group, with a very good team, notably in attack with certain arrivals.
“We have satisfied with this team but now we are going to have to show it on the pitch a bit more than we have done at the beginning of this season.”

On missing out on Aouar, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had said: “Believe me, believe me, the ownership, the board, Edu and myself are doing everything we can to maximise the resources we have to improve the team and sustain and keep the players that are in this club to make this club successful.
“I have 100 per cent backing from them. And it’s not just words, it’s reality. Whoever knows me, if it wasn’t like that I wouldn’t say that. But I say it because I feel it and it’s true.”
