Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Paul Pogba injury blow

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Paul Pogba picked up an injury in training for Manchester United this week, forcing him to miss the match against West Brom. Pogba has struggled to hold down a regular spot in United’s starting line-up this season.

It was a different picture on international duty with France has he started all three games against Finland, Portugal and Sweden.

He looked back to his best in particular in the latter two matches, playing the full 90 minutes in both games.

Pogba also hit the headlines for comments he made during the international break.

The 27-year-old said he had “never known such a difficult period” in his career having started less than half of United’s games this season.

Solskjaer addressed the comments during his press conference on Friday, insisting the midfielder remains important to his plans at Old Trafford.

“I spoke to Paul today about it. Of course he’s not been happy when he’s not playing, and not playing really well. He’s not been happy with his performances,” Solskjaer said.

“He plays in the same position for France and he does for us, so that’s not a different scenario.

“It’s about getting momentum and rhythm and, as I said earlier, he felt really strong towards the end against Portugal and towards the end of the game with Sweden which is natural because he had Covid and he needed time.

“That’s the same with all of our players, they look stronger and fitter and he’s the same.”

But the midfielder suffered a setback in training, ruling him out of the match against West Brom.

And Solskjaer admits Pogba is also a doubt for the Champions League match against Istanbul Basaksehir.

“He [Pogba] tried to finish the last session but it [ankle] got worse and worse so he is unavailable today,” he said.

“Hopefully he is OK for Tuesday [against Istanbul] but we’ll see.”
