Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urged to make one signing following Donny Van de Beek

Manchester United must sign another centre-half to partner Harry Maguire at Old Trafford. That is according to former United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

United broke the transfer record for a defender 12 months ago when they signed Harry Maguire from Leicester for £80million.

Maguire’s partner for much of the season was Victor Lindelof but the pair struggled at times.

Both came in for criticism after United were dumped out of the Europa League by eventual winners Sevilla.

United have not been able to fully replace the dominant partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

And Berbatov believes investment on a partner for Maguire is needed by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“If they are going to buy someone or not we are going to see, but I think that is where they need to strengthen,” he told Stadium Astro when asked if the defence is an area that requires additions.

“Everything else at the moment looks balanced. For me they need someone who can accommodate Harry Maguire.

“Harry is more of a guy for getting the ball out of the defence and giving it to the midfield, so maybe someone who is different to that but also strong.

“They need to copy the Rio and Vida partnership from the past.”

Meanwhile, England captain Harry Kane believes Mason Greenwood is already a ‘complete finisher’ despite one season of senior football.

Greenwood was called into the England national team after scoring 19 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions.

Kane has spent the week looking at the 18-year-old attacker and is impressed with what he has seen.

Kane said: “Mason’s been great. Since the first session we’ve had you can tell he’s full of confidence as a player, trying to shoot and take people on. That’s exactly what we want.

“He’s done great for his club, in that period after the lockdown especially, and it’s great to have him in the team.

“People use the phrase ‘natural goalscorer’. You work on being in the right place at the right time but some of it’s instinct as well.

“Watching him in the short time that he’s been here, he has all different types of finishes, which shows he’s a complete finisher.”
