Man Utd confident over £40m Raphael Varane move after nightmare vs Liverpool
Manchester United are confident of signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid in a £40million deal this summer.
The Red Devils are eager to sign a new centre-back once the summer transfer window opens, and have made Varane their top target.
Varane is out of contract in a year's time, and appears unlikely to sign a new deal.
The Frenchman has been tipped with a move away before, and United are confident that Madrid will sell if they make a bid in the region of £40m.
United conceded four against Liverpool on Thursday night as their defensive woes were laid bare.

The England International was seen with a protective boot on his left foot, forcing United to play Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly at the back instead.

The defeat laid United's problems bare, and highlighted the need for reinforcements at the back.
Solskjaer wants a new partner for Maguire, and plans to push Lindelof and Bailly down the pecking order despite the latter signing a new contract recently.
He is reportedly in the market for three world-class players to bolster his squad ahead of a Premier League title challenge next season.
United are believed to have held talks with the defender's representatives over a possible deal.
However, Liverpool are also said to be interested, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United recently extended the contract of Edinson Cavani, and are expected to turn their attention towards strengthening the defence as a result.
