Man Utd decide to take Harry Maguire risk ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no plans to rest club captain Harry Maguire for their game against Burnley, despite the defender being one booking away from a suspension.

Maguire has been booked four times in the league this season and if he receives another yellow card in United's trip to Turf Moor, then he would be banned for their crunch clash with title rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Solskjaer, starting every single league game since making the move from Leicester in 2019.

Despite the risk of potentially being without his captain for the trip to Anfield, Solskjaer has revealed Maguire will start against Burnley.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer said: "Harry is playing, definitely, that’s for sure. If he doesn’t wake up ill, you cannot only take three points and not put your eyes on games beyond this one."

If United avoid defeat against Sean Dyche's side, they will leapfrog Liverpool and go top of the table but Solskjaer has urged his squad not to look too far ahead.

"We need to get points against Burnley before anyone can say that we are top of the table, but that is a position that we have put ourselves in," he added.

"I would like to think that we go into this game not thinking about where we will end up in the table, but where we can end up in the table in May.

"That's what matters. You accumulate the points throughout the season, so if at one stage you think 'ah, we've made it now, we have cracked it' and you relax, that is when it's going to hit you back. We have to go into games being humble.

"We are very focused. We have some good characters in the team, the dressing room is louder, it's more vocal of course with experience.

"We have more players that can grab the situation. We need to be hard to play against no matter what, but the group mentality is improving all the time. Now it's a different challenge, we are in this position, we have to focus on this game and this game only."
