Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand names England’s two best players at the moment
Rio Ferdinand claims Manchester City star Phil Foden and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish are England's two best players at present.
Foden, 20, cemented his status as one of the most promising talents in the Premier League with a goal and an assist in City's emphatic 4-1 win at Liverpool on Sunday.
Meanwhile Grealish, 25, has gone from strength to strength after skippering Villa to safety last season and has already amassed six goals and 10 assists in the league this term.
Ferdinand has no doubt the pair are the two best English players at the moment and backed Foden to start for the Three Lions at this summer's Euros.
The former Manchester United defender told his FIVE YouTube channel : "Right now, he [Foden] has to play. It's like who's playing with him?
"It's who's playing with him and Grealish right now. Him and Grealish are the best players.
"Grealish and Foden are the best two English players playing right now. Best in form. They are the best two players right now in England."
Foden continues to grow in stature at City and has shone in the absence of the club's traditional heavy-hitters Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero.
Continuing his praise of the youngster, Ferdinand added: "Foden, man. When we're talking about top players, like generational talents, this kid is that. He is ridiculous.
"See now, I was one of the people saying, 'He's got to go out on loan, if I'm him I've got to go out and see what's going on outside somewhere, get me some experience, get me some games etc.'.
"But you see the confidence Pep's got. No KDB, no Aguero, David Silva's gone now – this is my man, throw him in, wrap it around him.
"Put the responsibility on his shoulders, he's waited long enough. Now's your time son. And this guy boy, this kid lapped it up."
Foden made his England debut last year and has scored two goals in three games for his country, while Grealish has made five appearances for the Three Lions.
