Man Utd make approach to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United have made an approach to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.

United have been previously linked with a move for the Serbia international during Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford.

Chelsea are also reportedly interested in a deal for the 25-year-old, who scored eight goals and registered eight assists for Lazio this season.

But according to Foot Mercato, United’s hierarchy have held initial talks with Milinkovic-Savic’s representatives this month.

The report claims that United view Milinkovic-Savic as the ideal signing to partner Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in their midfield.

United have not yet made an offer for Milinkovic-Savic but Lazio reportedly turned down a €90 million (£81.6m) last year.

However, Lazio’s sporting director, Igli Tare, has now indicated that the club are open to selling Milinkovic-Savic if they receive an acceptable offer.

‘The boy’s relationship with the city and Lazio will never die because there is a very strong bond that has grown over years,’ Tare said in June.

‘On the other hand, considering the situation, his wishes, everything we’ve talked about, every situation will be evaluated at the right time without any pressure, but above all for the good of both parties.

‘If there is a possibility that satisfies the club and the player, it will be taken into consideration.

‘If there is not, he is happy and we are very happy for him to stay.’
