Man Utd ‘positioned’ for de Jong, Phillips boost and Juventus plot double swoop

Manchester United could land a replacement for contract rebel Paul Pogba by signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, it has been reported.

The Old Trafford outfit could be set for a busy January transfer window as new boss Ralf Rangnick looks to add balance to his squad in midfield.

De Jong could be available at Barcelona as the Catalan giants look to raise much-needed funds to help their financial struggles.

Another name who has been linked to help solve United's midfield issues is Leeds United and England star Kalvin Phillips.

But two stars could be set to move to Juventus.

Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Manchester United transfer news below.

United "positioned" for de Jong

Manchester United are "positioned" to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, it has been reported.

Spanish publication El Nacional reports that United want the Holland international to become Paul Pogba's replacement should the Frenchman not sign a new contract and leave for nothing at the end of the season.

The report states: "The team that has shown the most interest in taking the Dutch international is Manchester United, who would be willing to make a strong bet on the '21'.

"They would pay a lot of money, and it would become Paul Pogba's replacement, who will not renew his contract, and who will leave completely free in June."

Agbonlahor told Football Insider : "Phillips will go wherever is good for him and wherever is good for his career.

"Those rivalries are silly. I know Leeds and Man United have history, but it’s not like it’s Leeds and Bradford or Aston Villa and Birmingham City.

"It’s not enough to stop him from playing Champions League football and playing at a big club like Manchester United. I’m 100% sure he would still make that move if an offer is accepted."

Juve plot double swoop

Juventus want to sign Manchester United pair Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial during next month's January transfer window, according to reports.

Italian publication Tuttosport [via Sport Witness ] reports that Juventus hope to solve their goalscoring issues this season by bringing in the United duo.

It is claimed Juve are moving with "conviction" in their attempts to land Cavani, and want to seal a permanent deal for Martial as they want him "for the immediate".
