Man Utd putting Donny van de Beek on Bruno Fernandes’ training programme
Manchester United have put Donny van de Beek on the same training programme they put Bruno Fernandes on when he signed.
The Dutchman joined from Ajax in the summer in a deal worth up to £40m.
And he has impressed since his arrival, both on the pitch and in training.
Van de Beek is incredibly versatile and can operate across multiple positions in midfield, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has avoided using him from the start too often.
The 23-year-old has been left on the bench for all three Premier League matches so far this term.
He has started both Carabao Cup games and United officials have been happy with his level in training.
But they want to see more and Solskjaer has put him on a special programme designed to build upper body strength, The Sun report.
It is the same drill used by Fernandes when he signed, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo during the early stages of his United career.
Van de Beek will be put through his paces, being made to do chest presses and pull-ups.
Jesse Lingard is another who was put on the programme, gaining three pounds in weight.
Solskjaer has already admitted he had the next few years in mind when signing Van de Beek, while also praising his ability to score from midfield.
“When we signed Bruno Fernandes, we knew we needed that kind of player, now we've signed Donny and he's a type of player I felt we needed in the squad,” he said.
“He's the type of person that will fit the culture, fit the team and will improve us next season and for years to come.
“Donny is a versatile player; a very intelligent, clever player. He's got loads of energy, enthusiasm, [he’s] developing all the time.
“He scores goals and we need to add goals from midfield.

"Our forwards scored quite a few goals last season, Bruno came in and scored goals but we need goals throughout the squad because we didn't score enough to be challenging at the top.
“He’ll add his creativity, his reading of the game, his understanding of the game.
"He can see space and arrive at the right time. The timing of his movement is fantastic.”
