Man Utd target Alex Telles ‘offered to Man City’ in big transfer development

Manchester United target Alex Telles has reportedly been offered to Manchester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign the Porto star before Monday’s transfer deadline to provide competition for Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams at left-back. But, with the Red Devils struggling to land the 27-year-old, City could now sign him instead.

Manchester United are well-stocked at left-back with Shaw, Williams, Diogo Dalot and Tim Fosu-Mensah all at Solskjaer’s disposal.

But they’re still eager to sign Telles nonetheless, with the club already having missed out on Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham.

United have spent the last week trying to conclude a deal for the Brazil international but they’ve struggled, finding Porto’s £18million asking price to be too steep.

And, now, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Telles has been offered to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola keen to improve his defence.

“Hearing Alex Telles has been offered to Manchester City, as deal with Manchester United continues to stall,” he tweeted.

“City want a new left-back and could be tempted by the Porto man…”

City could sell Oleksandr Zinchenko before Monday’s transfer deadline.

And while they’re keen to raid Ajax for Nicolas Tagliafico, Guardiola’s side could end up hijacking United on Telles instead.

The Porto star isn’t the only player on the Red Devils’ radar ahead of the transfer deadline, with the club still eager to sign Jadon Sancho.

Should a move for Sancho fail to go through, United have interest in Ousmane Dembele as an alternative with Barcelona ready to cut their losses on the France international.

Solskjaer himself has recently opened up on transfers and, speaking ahead of United’s Premier League showdown with Tottenham on Sunday, admitted he was wrong to say his side would look to ‘exploit’ the market.

“I think my wording in lockdown – exploit – was a bad word by me. I didn’t mean in that respect,” he said.

“I meant clubs out there [may] have to move players because of the situation and it might be an interesting situation for us.

“At the moment there’s not been those situations. We’ve lost loads of money as the other clubs have.”

He then added: “When I talked about the squad depth, of course the performances from [the then first-choice] players didn’t warrant me giving [other players] more options: the 11, 12, 13, players deserved to play as they played really well.

“I think it’s a different scenario now – after two games already I’ve seen many of the players who didn’t play too much last season performing really well.”

Pressed on the impending deadline, the 47-year-old added: “There are many ways to improve the team.

“We’re working here to get better. I keep reading about players that should be playing instead of ones that are playing: that tells me I’ve got a strong squad.

“We need to get fit and keep injury-free but there is more competition for places now.”

United have made deadline day signings in the past.

Dimitar Berbatov touched down from Tottenham in 2008, Radamel Falcao moved six years later and, back in January, Odion Ighalo moved from Shanghai Shenhua.
