Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has urged his old club to consider a summer move for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be in the market for a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of his side’s defence, with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly failing to make the position their own over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, Fofana has excelled for the Foxes since arriving from Saint-Etienne at the beginning of the campaign, establishing himself as a regular starter under Brendan Rodgers before a thigh muscle injury ruled him out of action for the entirety of last month.
The 20-year-old has since returned to the fold, playing the full 90 minutes of Leicester’s win over Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.
He has often been hailed as one of the Premier League’s signings of the summer, helping the 2016 champions to remain in the division’s top four for much of the campaign.
Hargreaves, who made 27 appearances for United during an injury-hit spell with the club between 2007 and 2011, has suggested that Solskjaer may benefit from raiding Leicester once again in order to land the perfect partner for one-time Foxes star Maguire.
“I’d love to see Manchester United get Fofana,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.

“He’s a Ferrari, honestly. I’d throw whatever they’ve got left in the bank to get him. He’s a fabulous player.”
Fofana’s contributions at the back have garnered high praise from Rodgers, who told reporters in November that he sees the Frenchman as a complete defender despite his tender years.
“We knew he was a top player for someone so young,” said the Leicester boss. “When we spoke to people out there and seeing all the clips, you could see he has anticipation as a defender.
“He has speed, he has aggression, he defends forward, so all the attributes we like here.
“I think the surprising thing is that if you look at the seven games he’s played and the level of the teams we’ve played, and the consistent run of games, how he’s coped with that. He’s absolutely colossal for a young guy.”
Hargreaves is not the only former United player to urge Ed Woodward into action, with club legend Paul Scholes also waxing lyrical when quizzed on Fofana in January.
The 46-year-old echoed Rodgers’ comments, suggesting that the Foxes star can be a world-class player in seasons to come.
“If I was Ole and could sign a defender this month, I’d go for Wesley Fofana at Leicester,” Scholes told ESPN. “He’s only 20, but he has been outstanding and he has the potential to be anything he wants to be.
“United have done okay at the back this season, but they have been exposed when playing against the big teams and that’s another problem they need to solve.”
The Red Devils have also been linked with a number of other defensive targets, including the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ben White and RB Leipzig star Ibrahima Konate.
Real Madrid stalwart Raphael Varane is another one rumoured to be on Solskjaer’s wish list, but could be set to stay in the Spanish capital after opening talks with the club over a new contract.
