Man Utd’s Lingard talks, Jones loan move, Solskjaer thoughts on Ronaldo rumours
Manchester United’s activity in the transfer market is expected to continue before the window draws to a close.
The Red Devils have made two superb acquisitions in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, both of whom are tipped to start against Wolves on Sunday.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains tight-lipped as ever over the club’s current transfer activity, stating: “I don’t think much is going to happen, if something happens it is a bonus.”
But United have been linked with midfield transfers Saul Niguez and Eduardo Camavinga this week and are expected to part ways with several players in order to raise funds.
Daily Star Sport has taken a look at the latest Man United transfer news below.
Lingard to West Ham edges closer
West Ham are confident of signing attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard in a late swoop before the transfer window closes.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Hammers in the second half of last season and has been linked with a return on a permanent deal.
Footy Insider claim an agreement between the clubs has not yet been reached but manager David Moyes is confident of signing the Englishman following talks on Thursday morning.
Ole plays down Ronaldo rumours
Do you think Man United will make another signing before the window closes? Let us know in the comments section.
Solskjaer has rubbished claims linking club legend and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to rivals Manchester City in the final days of the window.
Ronaldo, 36, is reportedly eager to leave Juventus this summer with the Italian giants also hoping to free up his mammoth wages, while Pep Guardiola’s side remain the favourites to sign him.
But Solskjaer is unconvinced by the rumours, saying: “I do not read newspapers. I know how much nonsense is written there, anyway.”
Fulham want Jones loan deal
Fulham are reportedly interesting in signing defender Phil Jones on a season-long loan.
According to 90Min, Fulham are among a ‘handful’ of Championship clubs who wish to bring in the former England international for this season, though United will be expected to pay the majority of his wages.
Jones, 29, has not played a competitive game for the club in 19 months due to knee injuries and is unlikely to displace any of Solskjaer’s current central-defence options even if he remains injury-free this campaign.
