Nottingham Forest SACK Sabri Lamouchi and bring in Chris Hughton

Nottingham Forest SACK manager Sabri Lamouchi after FOUR straight defeats… and replace him immediately with former Newcastle and Brighton coach Chris Hughton

  • Sabri Lamouchi leaves Nottingham Forest after just over 14 months at the club
  • Forest agonisingly missed out on the Championship play-offs last season
  • Yet they have started the season dreadfully and are yet to register a point
  • Forest then announced soon after that Chris Hughton was the club’s new boss

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the sacking of head coach Sabri Lamouchi and have replaced him immediately with Chris Hughton.

Forest are currently languishing in the Championship relegation zone following four straight defeats at the start of the new season, and the 2-1 defeat at home to Bristol City on Saturday was the final straw.

But soon after Forest’s one-line statement announcing Lamouchi’s departure, the club confirmed that ex-Newcastle, Norwich and Brighton head coach Hughton would be the club’s new manager.

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the sacking of head coach Sabri Lamouchi on Tuesday

Lamouchi has been replaced straight away by former Premier League manager Chris Hughton

The club announced the news of Lamouchi’s departure on Tuesday evening with a simple one-line statement: ‘Nottingham Forest can confirm that the contract of head coach Sabri Lamouchi has been terminated with immediate effect.’

The 48-year-old took over as Forest boss in July 2019 following the departure of Martin O’Neill.

Lamouchi guided Forest to seventh last season as they agonisingly missed out on a play-off spot on the final day following a capitulation against Stoke.

The Forest board kept the Frenchman on over the summer though, yet have already dispensed with his services less than a month after the 2020-21 season started.

Lamouchi has been received of his duties following a dreadful start to the new campaign

But they had clearly already identified their man to take charge, with Hughton’s Premier League experience clearly appealing to a club desperate to reach the top-flight.

Hughton, 61, was promoted with both Newcastle in 2009-10 and Brighton in the 2016-17 season, but was sacked by the Seagulls in May 2019 after narrowly keeping the club in the Premier League.

‘Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hughton as the club’s new manager,’ the club said in a separate press release.

Hughton guided Newcastle United to promotion to the Premier League over 10 years ago

‘Hughton joins the club with a wealth of managerial experience, leading both Newcastle United and Brighton to promotion from the Championship and going on to establish both teams in the Premier League.

‘The former Republic of Ireland international also boasted an impressive playing career, winning two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup during his time at Tottenham Hostpur.

‘Hughton has also managed Norwich City in the Premier League, leading them to an 11th-placed finish in 2012-13, and has managed close to 450 first-team games with a win percentage of over 40 per cent.’
