Thomas Partey’s agent has dismissed claims made by the player’s father, Jacob, that the Atletico Madrid star has entered negotiations to sign for Arsenal.

The Ghanaian has been heavily linked with a summer move to the Emirates and has a £43million release clause in his current deal – enticing the Gunners to bid for the combative midfielder.

The 26-year-old has been an important member of Diego Simeone’s team in LaLiga this season, starting 21 times and scoring twice, and the player’s agent has rejected the idea Atletico are planning to sell him. 

Arsenal and Atletico have held talks over the signing of Thomas Partey, his father claims 

Partey Snr told radio station Tru FM: ‘I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true.

‘He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer Atletico are demanding. If he goes to Arsenal fine, they have a lot supporters in Ghana.

‘I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is in need of a reinforcements in midfield with question marks over numerous squad members, but Partey’s agent says the Gunners are not close to agreeing a deal to sign the player.

‘It’s totally untrue,’ JJSports, Partey’s representatives, said of the reported Arsenal negotiations.

Partey’s last game came in Atletico’s Champions League win over Liverpool at Anfield in March, producing an excellent display. The Reds were frustrated against a stubborn Atletico side as Partey smothered their attacking play.
