Premier League flop Mido weighed more than Tyson Fury before major weight loss

Ex-Premier League flop Mido weighed more than heavyweight champion Tyson Fury before his dramatic weight loss.

Mido earned cult hero status in the top-flight during spells at Tottenham, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Wigan Athletic.

But the Egyptian star piled on the pounds after retiring from the game and had to make drastic changes to his lifestyle.

Things came to a head for the 38-year-old in 2018 when a picture circulated of him looking a shadow of his former self.

Mido later revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he had ballooned to 150kg – making him heavier than Fury.

"I was 150kg and I reached a point where I couldn't walk 30 yards," Mido said in an inspiring interview with The Guardian.

"If I did, I started to feel pain in my back, my joints and my knees. I remember I was getting off my boat in Egypt five months ago – this day is the turning point in my life – and I was walking off on to an island.

"I had three friends with me and it was 300 yards to the end of the island. The sand was a bit heavy and it was a bit sunny and I said to them: 'I cannot walk.' I had to sit for 30 minutes. I was only 34."

At that time, Mido actually weighed more than heavyweight champ Fury, who clocked in at 256.5lbs (116.3kg) for his first bout against Deontay Wilder in the same year.

Fury has battled his own weight demons in the past and fought back after tipping the scales at a huge 400lb earlier on in his career.

The Gypsy King claimed he drank 100 pints a week before his comeback and decided to do something about his lifestyle – just like Mido.

"To be honest, the doctor told me that if I continue with my lifestyle, there is a more than an 80% chance that I'll die before I am 40", Mido added.

"He told me: 'You will die."

That was enough to kick the former Tottenham man into gear.

No doubt spurred on by what the doctor had told him, Mido proceeded to lose an incredible 8st (50kg) inside a year, taking his weight down to around the 100kg mark.

He showed off his new toned physique in a picture on Instagram in 2019.

His trainer Aly Mazhar said: "Hitting rock bottom after being recognised as an Egyptian football star and starting your coaching career, getting through surgery, changing your lifestyle and deciding to fully commit to it.

"Set your goal, have a plan, follow it and results will just be a matter of time.

"Most importantly BELIEVE in yourself, get the right support system around you and don’t listen to all the negative c*** around us every single day.

"That’s will power and full dedication right there. This is the MIDO we all know. Hats off."
