Real Madrid need at least £44m for Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga

Real Madrid will have to splash out at least £44m for Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga as his agent Jonathan Barnett tips him to become ‘the best midfielder in the world’

Rennes’ teenage superstar Eduardo Camavinga has been tipped to become ‘the best midfielder in the world’ and will cost his closest suitors Real Madrid at least £44million to take him to Spain, according to his agent.

Jonathan Barnett said Camavinga is a special talent who has several big clubs chasing his signature next summer but that the 18-year-old is focused on Rennes for now.

‘At the moment, he’s a Rennes player,’ Barnett told Goal. ‘He likes Rennes and, at the moment, we haven’t really taken to other clubs. It isn’t our position.

‘Let’s see what happens later on, but he’s doing well in Rennes and that’s fine. Being the best midfielder in the world, that’s how I see his future, (with) a lot of medals and a lot of trophies.’

Commenting on whether Camavinga would cost any new club more than £44million (€50m), Barnett said: ‘I would think so.’

Angola-born Camavinga already has three France international caps to his name, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

He has made 22 appearances in Ligue 1 this season and four in the Champions League, gaining crucial big-game experience very early in his career.

Real Madrid appear to be the front runners for Camavinga’s signature and Barnett, who also looks after Gareth Bale and thus knows what it takes to engineer a big money move to the Spanish giants, did nothing to dampen the speculation.

Barnett said Camavinga, 18, ‘would love to play for a top club’ like Real Madrid or Barcelona

‘(Real Madrid are) a great club, a great club to play for,’ he said. ‘Eduardo will have a choice of a lot of clubs if Rennes decides to release him. They will be one of the four of five clubs in the world he might go to.

‘Eduardo would love to play for a top club. Madrid are one of those top clubs in the world, so are Barcelona.’

Other clubs said to be keeping close tabs on Camavinga include Liverpool, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
