Salt Bae posts old clip of himself with Messi as fans beg for ‘dislike button’

Salt Bae has unearthed an old clip of himself with Lionel Messi after fans hit out at his "embarrassing" antics at the World Cup final.

Salt Bae – real name Nusret Gokce – attracted the ire of football supporters after desperately trying to join in Argentina's celebrations on the pitch after their dramatic World Cup final win over France.

The iconic chef popped up in a series of cringeworthy videos attempting to muscle in on the celebrations, even appearing to try and snatch the trophy away from one of the players. And after posing for pictures next to Angel di Maria and Lisandro Martinez, the 39-year-old set his fame hungry sights on Messi.

Salt Bae appeared to be blanked by the Paris-Saint Germain star on multiple occasions as he tried to get the former Barcelona man's attention in the moments before Argentina's trophy lift.

Fans lambasted Salt Bae for his actions, and now the controversial culinary celeb has responded by posting a clip on Instagram that shows him meeting a seemingly delighted Messi in 2018.

After enjoying a meal with Paul Pogba at one of Salt Bae's restaurants in Dubai, Messi extends his arm for a handshake with Salt Bae before embracing the Turkish chef with a hug.

Messi, Salt Bae and Pogba then pose for a picture as the footage ends. Salt Bae captioned the uploaded: "The champion @LeoMessi #saltbae #saltlife #salt'.

Despite the chef's attempts to show his apparent friendship with Messi following the unsightly events of Sunday night, when he was accused of pestering the star, fans didn't appear impressed in the comments.

One wrote: "DISLIKE BUTTON HERE." Another said: "Haha. Now he’s posting video himself and Messi five years ago Nusr Et, shame on you!"

A third person added: "Cringe Bae this video older than Jurassic Park." As a fourth user commented: "He’s uploading videos because Messi didn’t remember him, he’s trying to remind him that I am Salt Bae owner."

Others said: "You really lost it bro, he don’t like you." And: "Messi doesn’t like you. Stop holding on."

Salt Bae – along with FIFA – also faced criticism from former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who accused football's governing body of "cronyism".

"It defies convention, it breaks protocol,' Jordan told talkSPORT, referencing Salt Bae's close proximity to the World Cup trophy after Argentina's victory on Sunday. "It looks like cronyism, it smells like cronyism, it walks and talks like cronyism, so guess what it is? It’s bleeding cronyism.

"It’s unprofessional. There's no place for him. He shouldn't have been on the pitch."
