Sergio Ramos was sent off in just his third appearance for Paris Saint-Germain.

The 35-year-old summer signing, who picked up 26 red cards for former side Real Madrid, only made his debut for the Ligue 1 club last month due to a long-term injury.

He completed 90 minutes without being carded, before a further spell on the sidelines followed.

Ramos returned to the starting line-up in the French Cup at the weekend but didn't start PSG's league match against Lorient on Wednesday night.

However, after being brought on at half-time by Maurcio Pochettino, he went on to be booked twice and see red.

The centre-back had been shown a yellow card just minutes before but decided to cynically bring down an opposition striker who was looking to break past him.

He was therefore given his marching orders by the referee with just over five minutes of the match left.

Despite knowing exactly what he was doing, Ramos proceeded to protest the decision with the fourth official as he headed for the dressing room.

The sight of Ramos being red carded yet again in his career led one person to joke: "Nature is healing."

"Nothing is to surprise here Ramos is doing his thing," another said.

One football fan claimed: "Sergio has arrived. PSG might actually have a chance at the UCL now that Ramos is in full flow."

"New club same Ramos," another noted, while "grass is green" and "water is wet" featured heavily in the online reaction.

Despite going down to 10 men, PSG managed to salvage a point from the game.

They had been behind since the first half but an injury time goal from Mauro Icardi levelled the scores in the last match of 2021 for both teams.

Pochettino and his side end the year comfortably out in front as Ligue 1 leaders, with 13 points separating them and second-placed Nice.
