Thiago compared to Coutinho as new Liverpool man tipped as "signing of season"
Ex-Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique believes Thiago Alcantara can have a similar impact at Anfield to that of Philippe Coutinho.
The Reds completed the signing of Thiago from Bayern Munich last month and huge things are expected of the player following his phenomenal performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League in recent seasons.
The 29-year-old came off the bench to make his Liverpool debut in the 2-0 win over Chelsea in September but has been self-isolating for the last two weeks after testing positive for coronavirus.
He returned to training on Tuesday, however, and could be in line to feature again in the Merseyside Derby against Everton this weekend.
And speaking to the Daily Mail, Enrique stated his belief that Thiago will take his former side to another level in the same way that Coutinho did when the Brazilian first arrived from Inter Milan in 2013.
"He's a phenomenal player. He's a top midfielder but he's also a magician in the way that [Philippe] Coutinho was," he said.
"I can see him alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in midfield, and giving the team something they didn't have before.
"And it says a lot about where the club is right now that someone who is an important player at Bayern Munich wants to come and play for Liverpool."
And Enrique also think Thiago will improve even further under the watchful eye of Jurgen Klopp and prove to be the best purchase from any Premier League side this summer.
He added: "I think [Jurgen] Klopp has the best squad he has had since he has been at the club. And he will make the signings better players. He makes all of them better players.
"It's difficult to improve someone who a top Bayern player but Thiago will learn new things. He will be, if not the signing, then certainly one of the signing of the seasons."
