Thomas Tuchel takes full responsibility for "unfair" treatment of Chelsea star
Chelsea furthered their top four prospects with a 2-0 win over Everton on Monday night as Thomas Tuchel’s fine start to life at Stamford Bridge continued.
An own goal from Ben Godfrey and a Jorginho penalty were enough for the Blues to see off Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Under the German, Chelsea are now unbeaten in nine games, and are yet to concede a home goal in the Premier League since he replaced Frank Lampard.
But one man who has largely been on the outside looking in under the former Borussia Dortmund boss is United States international Christian Pulisic.
The forward, whom worked with Tuchel at the German giants, has struggled for starts since his arrival.
And Tuchel says he has likely been “unfair” on a player whom has had injury issues this term and whom he knows better than most.
"I can say nothing else but good things about him," Tuchel said at his post-game press conference on Monday.
"Maybe his biggest problem is that I know him from Dortmund and I think he started only in the cup games.
"It is my responsibility and it is a bit unfair but I know what impact he can have in the last 20 or 30 minutes.
"He was a bit unlucky in the last few games. It isn't a lack of trust or quality, it is just that he will have to be patient.
"I have another guy who I would love to mention in Emerson [Palmieri] who suffers from bad decisions by me.
"He does not play but he is an amazing guy who trains at the highest level and he never lets the team down with his mentality. It was a super hard decision today to have him out of the squad, the same with Tammy [Abraham].
"It is like this, we have a strong group. The guys have to keep on fighting. There's no other way."
Chelsea’s win on Monday kept them in fourth place in the table, closing the gap to Leicester in third back to three points.
It also kept them two points clear of West Ham in fifth, although the Hammers have a game in hand.
