Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho’s brutal words to Dele Alli heard during Stoke win

Jose Mourinho 's angry response to a Dele Alli flick was picked up as Tottenham beat Stoke in the Carabao Cup.

The attacking midfielder returned to the Spurs XI at the Bet365 Stadium this evening despite a recent first-team exodus.

Alli enjoyed a good first-half, with Spurs going 1-0 up before half-time thanks to a Gareth Bale header.

But the 25-year-old tried a cheeky flick in the second-half, resulting in Stoke pinching the ball and scoring against the run of play.

Mourinho was clearly incensed on the touchline and made his feelings known towards Alli by shouting at the out of favour Tottenham star.

"Dele tries a flick and Mourinho says 'your flick has cost us that goal'," co-commentator Clinton Morrison said on BBC 5Live.

"There's going to be more to that. Jose is not happy."

Luckily for Alli, Spurs ended up running out 3-1 winners as they booked their place in the semi-finals.

The former MK Dons man is facing an uncertain future under Mourinho, though, after a number of first-team snubs in recent months.

The Spurs boss continues to insist that he does not have a problem with Alli, however.

Earlier this month Mourinho said: "One thing is me understanding the players, another thing is the players’ situation.

“I don’t have any problem with Dele.

"I don’t have any problems with anyone. I’m really happy I don’t have personal issues with any of my players.

"Players are happier when they play. They’re not happy when they don’t play and I don’t blame them. That’s just the way it is.

"The concept that wins above everything is the concept that the team is more important than any one of us.”

Alli has been linked with loan moves to PSG, Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle in recent weeks.
