Tottenham submit bid for Barcelona ace who has £90m release clause as Mourinho eyes deal

Tottenham have made an opening offer for Barcelona sensation Lucas de Vega as Jose Mourinho looks to add strength in depth to his squad this summer, according to reports.

Spanish publication AS claim Spurs have put together a bid of around £2million for the central midfielder.

De Vega has a gigantic £90m release clause despite having yet to feature in a first-team match.

Barcelona are hoping to keep hold of the 20-year-old and integrate him with the senior squad for the upcoming campaign.

But the youngster does not want to sit in the stands and watch on as his team-mates go to battle on the pitch.

The Brazilian feels his development would be best served playing regular minutes and that may only happen if he leaves the Nou Camp.

AS adds that Barca will reluctantly accept an offer of around £7m – but they want £3.6m of that fee paid up front.

The La Liga giants also want a buy-back clause included in the deal.

Tottenham must decide quickly if they want to improve their offer for De Vega as a host of other clubs are monitoring his situation.

Spanish sides Sporting Gijon, Malaga, Tenerife and Real Zaragoza are all keeping tabs on the starlet.

Mourinho is determined to freshen up his squad and could launch an improved offer ‘in the coming days’, AS says.

Spurs have already added goalkeeper Joe Hart, defender Matt Doherty and midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to their squad this summer.

Speaking about his future last month, De Vega said: “Whether I stayed in Barcelona or if I returned to [Colommbian side] Cartagena, I value tomorrow positively, since this season I have matured.

“I have been able to play an important role in a great team and I have experienced a promotion.

“If you want to reach the elite, you have to aspire to the maximum, so I feel ready and eager.

He added: “It has been a season in which I have learned and matured a lot.

“It is true that at the beginning it was difficult for me to enter, it is not easy to leave a team in which you have been almost all your life and adapt to another team and in a category such as it is.

“But in the end with work and doing things well I have managed to be important.”
