Tottenham are currently unsure whether to make a deadline day move for Houssem Aouar and a move seems unlikely at this stage of the transfer window, reports claim. The Lyon midfielder is up for grabs less than a year after the French club rejected two offers from Arsenal.
The Gunners have refused to return for Aouar though but remain interested with Mikel Arteta instead prioritising sales and the signing of a right-back.
Last October, Arsenal decided to turn attentions to Thomas Partey after Lyon continued to play hardball as the club triggered the Ghanaian’s £45million release clause.
That now gives Tottenham an advantage and they effectively have a clear run on Aouar should they wish to pursue him.
Last summer, Barcelona and Juventus were also keen but interest from the European giants has now died with both clubs starved of cash.

However, football.london claim Spurs are still reluctant to launch a late move for the 23-year-old, even if they have the best chance of signing him.
Technical director Fabio Paratici is working night and day to bring in new faces in north London but for now his efforts are focused on signing defenders for Nuno Espirito Santo.
Any deal for Aouar is likely to hinge on the future of wantaway midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, who is now expected to stay at Spurs.
Reports earlier in the window claimed Tottenham attempted to negotiate a swap deal to sign Aouar, that would see Ndombele return to Lyon.

But that appeared to just be speculation and given Aouar is available on loan with an option to buy, you get the sense it may have happened by now.
Tottenham are hopeful they can sign Emerson Royal from Barcelona though before the window slam shuts.
The club are in talks with Barca over a deal for the Brazilian, who was only signed permanently from Real Betis earlier this summer.
Spurs are actively trying to ship Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty too but finding a buyer for both has proved difficult.

Wolves will demand at least £50m for the Spaniard and Spurs are not willing to pay that kind of money.
Their opening offer – a loan with £40m option to buy – was rebuffed by Wolves last week and Tottenham have since failed to return with a second bid.
