Tuchel eyeing another Chelsea left-back with Emerson heading in other direction

Chelsea are exploring the possibility of a player-plus-cash deal for Alex Sandro that would see Emerson Palmieri head in the opposite direction to Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

Emerson has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season, only making two Premier League appearances under previous boss Frank Lampard and his successor Thomas Tuchel.

And with just over a year to run on his current Blues deal, that means he is inevitably being linked with a move away from the club ahead of the summer transfer window.

A proposed return to Serie A, where he racked up 34 appearances for Roma before heading to west London in January, has long been mooted for the Italy left-back.

Juventus and Inter Milan are said to be eyeing up a potential deal, and Corriere Torino claim Emerson’s name is “very topical” these days over in Turin.

It is believed the Italian champions could include Sandro in an exchange deal with Emerson this summer, which would see Chelsea also front up some cash.

The Brazilian, 30, is understood to be keen on a potential switch to Stamford Bridge in order to work with Tuchel, who tried to sign him during his time at Paris St-Germain.

The swap deal is reportedly “liked by everybody”, meaning a transfer could be on the cards when the transfer window eventually opens for business.

Sandro has made 224 appearances for Juve, picking up five Serie A titles and three Coppa Italias.

  • Nevertheless, Tuchel already has two other left-backs in his squad right now, with Emerson currently behind Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso in the pecking order.

Alonso had been frozen out by predecessor Lampard earlier in the campaign, but since replacing the former Chelsea midfielder in west London Tuchel has brought him back into the fold.

The Spaniard has benefitted from Tuchel’s switch to a back three, which has seen him reintroduced to the side at left wing-back.

Chilwell, meanwhile, has made 32 appearances since joining Chelsea in a £50million switch from Leicester last summer.
