Vladimir Ivic's future as Watford boss hangs in the balance over the bust-up that led to captain Troy Deeney being dropped for the 2-0 defeat by Huddersfield.

Ivic axed Deeney for what he described after the game as ‘discipline issues’.

But the move has left Vicarage Road bigwigs unimpressed and the Serb is facing serious questions over the issue in the coming days.

Discussing his decision after the clash with Huddersfield, Ivic said: “First of all, he didn’t start the game because he played the previous four games for 90 minutes.

“And we know he didn't work with the team and he came from the injury after a long period and I believe that he was not ready to play from the beginning.

“Why he didn’t come from the bench, this is another question, because of some discipline issues.”

Pressed on the matter, he added: “This is between us, and I don’t want to speak about some things to the media.

“I said from the first day, I’m here to do my best and to work to do what’s best for the club, together with my players.

“Nobody and no one can be above the club in my team when I'm coach.”
