Wan-Bissaka to get new position if Man Utd complete Kieran Trippier transfer

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be trialled at centre-back in pre-season if the club complete a move for right-back Kieran Trippier.

Trippier, 30, is keen on a return to England and has reportedly been looking at houses in the north-west in preparation for a move to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes his side need a more attack-minded full-back on the right as teams often leave Wan-Bissaka in possession, given his strength is his defending and not his attacking.

United have worked tirelessly to improve Wan-Bissaka’s attacking such his £50m arrival from Crystal Palace and though progress has been made, Solskjaer feels he would benefit from competition at right-back.

However, Solskjaer doesn’t want Wan-Bissaka to find himself benched should Trippier arrive and the Sun claim the defender will be given a shot at centre-back this summer if Trippier arrives.

United are on the lookout for a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire but Wan-Bissaka could be played at right centre-back in pre-season to see if he could fill the void.

Solskjaer played three at the back regularly when he took over but has only used it sparingly since.

However, should Wan-Bissaka impress in a more central role, United could move to a back three with the defender on the outside with Maguire and Victor Lindelof making up the remainder of the backline.

Trippier joined Atletico for £20m from Tottenham in 2019 and the England defender has two years to run on his deal in the Spanish capital.

But the right-back is keen on a return to England after winning La Liga with Diego Simeone’s side and his family already reside in the north-west.

United are keen on Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, Trippier and a centre-back, with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane considered a priority.
