Wilshere names ‘unbelievable’ Rice as Premier League’s best youngster

Jack Wilshere has hailed Declan Rice as the best young player in the Premier League, claiming his teammate has the quality to “go all the way” in his career.

Rice, 21, has enjoyed another solid season at the heart of West Ham United’s midfield and is continuing to emerge as one of the most important players at the London Stadium.

The former Chelsea academy player has made 30 appearances for the Irons this campaign, providing two assists, and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Manchester City or back to the Blues.

And these links will come as no surprise to Wilshere, who lauded his teammate during an Instagram Live.

When asked to name his favourite young player in the Premier League, the former Arsenal midfielder said: “You know what, there’s so many good young players.

“But the one that I get to see every day and I get to play with him, Dec. Declan Rice. He can go all the way, he’s unbelievable. Left foot, right foot and he’s a great lad. Love you, Dec!”

Rice recently intensified rumours linking him with a return to Stamford Bridge by admitting that he would love to play with former Chelsea academy teammate Mason Mount.

But former Arsenal striker Paul Merson has urged the Gunners to scupper their London rivals by moving for Rice. "Chelsea have been linked with him, but I don’t know why Arsenal aren’t looking at Declan Rice,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Arsenal are crying out for a holding midfield player. They don’t need a midfielder who’s going to be on the edge of the opposition box, they need a disciplined defensive midfielder, who is going to sit in front of the back four and organise the side; one who, when he gets the ball, gives it simple with 10-yard passes.”
