Horse racing tips, best bets for Hawkesbury, Sandown, Eagle Farm and Morphettville

Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner in the major races this weekend.

Last week … Four winners. Ray Thomas was on the money with the heavily supported Lost And Running ($2.70) in the last race at Randwick, and Nathan Exelby has taken no time to notch a hat-trick after Skins ($1.80) saluted in the “get out” at Doomben. Clinton Payne found Kolding ($9) and Simon Moy nailed Still A Star ($4.40) with their value bets.

Saturday: HAWKESBURY (9 races, start 11.50am), EAGLE FARM (9 races, 11.30am), SANDOWN HILLSIDE (9 races, 12pm), MORPHETTVILLE (9 races, 12.15pm), ASCOT (9 races, 1.49pm).

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph) Form: 95281

ROYAL CELEBRATION (Race 8, No.7 — $3.10)

This Ron Quinton-trained stallion turned in a eye-catching run when wide throughout before finishing a close up third behind Rocha Clock at Randwick last Saturday. On the quick back-up but nicely drawn and will appreciate getting to the 1600m.

Value bet: RUBY TUESDAY (Race 2, No.10 — $4.60)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 14125

ELLSBERG (Race 7, No.3 — $2.10)

He should only get better off his dominant first-up win and has the barrier to control things if he wants or take a sit behind a tearaway leader. He’s got so much upside.

Value bet: PLONKA (Race 9, No.10 — $12)

DARREN PRENDERGAST (NewsRacing) Form: 57422

ELLSBERG (Race 7, No.3 — $2.10)

Scored a dominant win in the South Pacific Classic and will be hard to catch again.

Value bet: THE DEEPEST SECRET (Race 3, No.13 — $11)

After an eye catching fourth at Randwick last start, Sweet Deal will give a bold sight in the Hawkesbury Crown. Photo: Simon Bullard/AAP ImageSource:AAP

CLINTON PAYNE (Racenet) Form: x3542

SWEET DEAL (Race 5, No.2 — $4.20)

Arrives here off an almost identical set to when she won The Hunter at the back end of last spring. A similar performance here and she’s winning again.

Value bet: SERENA (Race 9, No.7 — $26)

MITCH COHEN (Racenet) Form: x72

YANGTZE RAPIDS (Race 4, No.12 — $3.10)

Yangtze Rapids finally broke through in maiden company last start at Canterbury and suspect he can go on with it here. The son of Frankel is on a Queensland Derby path so should appreciate the step up to 1800m and his preferred dry going on what looks to be a race without a lot of depth.

Value bet: LIVEINTHEFASTLANE (Race 8, No. 10 — $23)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 23124

ELLSBURG (Race 7, No.3 — $2.10)

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained colt absolutely bolted in when resuming from a spell at Randwick and looks well placed to make it back-to-back victories. It was a perfectly judged front running ride by Tim Clarke who glided across to the front and dictated and expect to see similar tactics employed here.

Value bet:

I AM ELOQUENT (Sandown, Race 6, No.1 — $14)

BRAD WATERS (Racenet) Form: 3013x

APPROACH DISCREET (Race 8, No.3 — $5.00)

Didn’t have the best of luck when resuming at big odds at Caulfield last time out. His second-up record is strong and is unbeaten at the track. Expect him to threaten again on Saturday.

Value bet: JAPERY (Race 9, No.1 — $23)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing) Form: 113×7

CORDILLA (Race 3, No. 1 — $2.10)

The four-year-old mare showed what she is capable of in her last-start win in a strong-rating race. She should go even better at 1300m.

Value bet: RAINBIEL (Morphettville, Race 6, No. 11 — $9.50)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 73816

CORDILLA (Race 3, No.5 — $2.10)

Talented mare who was strong to the line at Caulfield and has the Will Price advantage here.

Value bet: EUPHORIC SUMMER (Morphettville, Race 9, No.10 — $4.60)

NATHAN EXELBY (Sky Racing). Form: x111

TREKKING (Race 8, No.1 – $2.50)

He’s a horse well-versed with the Eagle Farm surface and just beautifully placed in this race. The two trials indicate he’s come back well and he’s good enough to bowl these over first up.

Value bet: MASS DESTRUCTION (Race 4, No.1 – $5.50)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing) Form: 37414

HELA (Race 8, No. 4 – $4.80)

Anyone who follows Tasmanian racing would be aware of this filly’s exploits. Has totally dominated in all seven wins. Just needs to handle new surroundings to continue unbeaten run.

Value bet: MALICORNE (Race 6, No. 9 — $13)

JETT HATTON (Racenet) Form: 11454

MINHAAJ (Race 6, No.8 — $4.00)

Should have finished much closer last time out and like that connections have decided for the easier contest instead of the TAB Classic. Form behind the likes of September Run reads well for this and she’ll get the right run in transit from barrier four.

Value bet: RUBISAKI (Race 7, No.11 — $16)
