The Everest search heats up after Rothfire injury
Saturday felt like ‘a massive punch in the face’ for miRunners boss Steve Brown but his team have no waste in their search for a replacement for Queensland star Rothfire in next month’s $15 million The Everest.
The Robert Heathcote-trained Rothfire had been booked to run in miRunners slot in the lucrative sprint but was ruled out of the race after pulling up lame following the Golden Rose.
It is unlikely he will race for the next 12 months after it was discovered he had fractured his sesamoid bone in the Group 1 and has since successfully undergone surgery.
WHAT A RIDE.

Brown was gutted by the news after locking in the three-year-old for the October 17 feature more than six weeks out from the main event.
“We have expressed how sad we are for them and it was the worst thing to come out of the weekend,” Brown said.
“This is a fairytale for thousands of people all around Australia and he is a fairytale horse.
“At the 400m mark it looked like the fairytale was continuing and that’s how quickly it can change.
“All of those guys from the breeders and the owners, it’s very sad for them.
“We are very respectful for what they’ve lost but we still have an obligation to the thousands of owners involved in the slot.”
Brown indicated miRunners had four horses on their radar to replace Rothfire in The Everest.
Godolphin Group 1 winner Trekking, The Everest runner-up Santa Ana Lane, Group 2 victor Eduardo as well as speedy mare Libertini.
The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane is set to line up in Saturday’s Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington while Libertini returns in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick.

Brown said the miRunners team would be keeping a close eye on both.
“The panel is reconvening and doing the ratings to get to somewhere where we can move on to round two,” Brown said.
“We still have a responsibility to a couple of thousand people so we have to get on with it.
“We are trying to decipher between Trekking, Santa Ana Lane and Eduardo while Libertini is also on the radar as well.
“We want to think that we are still a chance of winning this and give our guys every chance of doing so.
“Fingers crossed that will be the case.”
Godolphin confirmed Bivouac as their runner on Monday morning leaving just five spots still available for this year’s The Everest.
Nature Strip (TAB), Classique Legend (Bon Ho), Gytrash (Inglis), Tofane (Yulong), Farnan (Aquis) and Behemoth (The Star) are already in the race.
